As Jack Mason was thinking of ways to evolve their Field watch, they wanted to incorporate some of the tech-infused materials and sustainable trends advancing in the market. The biggest challenge was creating an environmentally friendly watch without sacrificing style and quality. They came up with innovative ways to incorporate eco-minded materials into each element of the watch. A solar powered movement was chosen not only for its lifespan and use of earth’s most available resource, but also for its subtle encouragement to get outside and recharge it. In addition to cork, a popular sustainable resource, they used a recently developed recycled polyester upholstery to construct the interchangeable watch straps. For the watch case, they invested in a new tooling that allowed them to cast recycled stainless steel and use wastage from other case manufacturing. Earth Day was the perfect time to debut the new Jack Mason Solar watch, not only because it is composed of recycled and sustainable materials, but because its unique features make it the perfect companion for any active outdoorsmen.
ROTATING COMPASS BEZEL
HOW TO USE COMPASS (NORTHERN HEMISPHERE):
1. Find the sun’s position in the sky.
2. Holding the watch level, point the hour hand in direction of the sun.
3. Rotate the compass bezel using secondary crown until the South marking is between the hour hand (sun’s position) and 12 o’clock.
4. Once South is set, you can use the rest of the directionals.
* For Southern Hemisphere use “North” marker instead of “South”.
* This method can only provide a very general bearing, and should not be relied upon for precise orienteering.
* Watch should be set to standard time, not daylight savings.
