This watch was a design collaboration between illustrator Kristof Devos and Mr Jones Watches. It is designed as a reminder to enjoy relaxing and that time spent doing nothing, is time well spent.
How to read the time:
HOURS: The falling leaf points to the hour.
MINUTES: The bird points to the minutes
The trunks around the the dial are positioned exactly where you'd expect to see numbers on a watch face. The watch was made in London by Mr Jones Watches and is limited to 100 pieces worldwide.
Kristof explains his design inspiration:
"The first watch I designed for Mr Jones Watches 'A perfectly useless afternoon' was a gentle reminder to take it easy and enjoy the moment. Although the new watch ‘A perfectly useless morning’ is created with the east same thought in mind, it is a totally different experience of time. Lying in the grass and looking at the birds in the sky is one of my favourite pastimes, I really wanted to put this feeling into a watch. Where in the afternoon timepiece, the hour is shown with the foot of a figure floating around in the water, the figure in ‘morning’ is somewhat put to the background. It is a falling lead that’s showing time, together with a bird for the minutes (where we has a rubber duck in ‘afternoon’).
The design is a bit more complex than in Afternoon; we have hundreds of leaves that circle around, and again there are no clock hands to show time. To increase legibility of the watch, I put twelve trees into place, exactly where you would expect the hour lines in a more, let’s say, ‘usual watch’. This way, once you get used to the timepiece, you read it as fast as any Swiss made. After a couple of samples and adjustments, we created something that I’m very proud of. The timepiece is exactly what I had in mind and I’m glad we went all the way to overcome a couple of minor technical difficulties in the design. I must admit, I also love the strap with the green stitches, it’s the perfect finish for a perfectly useless morning."
